How it all began...

Back in 2015 I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, needless to say when her first birthday came around I wanted to, but of course, bake her first cake and possibly every other cake after that, as my own mother did. I had dabbled in baking and cake decorating over the years as my mom used to bake and decorated cakes as a side hustle while I was growing up. I used to help her and I owe pretty much all I know about baking and cake decorating to her. So when my baby’s first birthday came around, I decided to bake her cake and attempt to make some toppers to go with it. I had chosen a Teddy bear’s picnic theme, as we were having a picnic at Kirstenbosch Gardens. 
With wanting to master 3D toppers, I went for more lessons because one can always improve on their skills. I started to make my own gumpaste in order to reduce the costs of the toppers and over the years I have perfected my recipe to get the best results. I also make my own flower paste from which I create realistic sugar flowers, which are generally used on wedding cakes.

As time went on my customers soon learned that knowing how to bake was one thing and cake decorating was on a whole other level and quickly realized that if they wanted a unique and bespoke cake for their party it was better to ask me, someone with the know how and experience. From here I started to bake more cakes with toppers. Originally I used my mom’s cake recipe that I had grown up baking, it’s simple, easy and delicious! While going on courses I met this lovely lady who had been doing cake decorating for years and her speciality was sugar flowers. She was a wealth of knowledge and she was not afraid to part with it and she parted with her cake recipe, the recipe that I used now and have been using for the past 4 years. It’s light, fluffy and delicious and never goes wrong. This recipe is so easy that over the years I have learned how to amend it and from that I have my own unique recipe for lemon meringue cake, orange cake, red velvet and most recently gluten free.


In recent years I started getting requests for iced sugar cookies. I did my research, practiced and learned how to bake and decorate them. As my daughter has gotten older she has wanted to start helping me with orders, BUT of course she can’t, so I started giving her cookies and cupcakes to decorate for herself and with that my DIY cookies in a box was born. The kids love being able to ice and decorate their own cookies and keeps them entertained for at least 30 mins to an hour. I bake and create unique and bespoke cakes and toppers for all occasions, from birthday celebrations to weddings and Sunday afternoon tea cakes! I strive to give my customers only the best quality in ingredients, the most delicious cakes and the most beautiful and uniquely decorated cakes – no two are the same.
